My Virgin Preaching-for-real Experience ok, so friday was mock cg test and i was to be the preacher for that round.. i have
7 minutes! to execute and impact... what shall i preach on? wanted to do sth down the lines of "childlike faith" but then the idea was sort of taken someone already... I also didn't want to do those have faith in God, have faith in the Word, have faith in Others kind of sermon.. i wanted something deeper something that will be memorable... was flitting between ideas and until Thursday night, i still had nooooo idea what i wanted to do
disclaimer: took 1 hour to read up, source for materials and come out with a a skeleton (title, points, verses), went to sleep at about 230am.. took 2 hours to write my sermon while on the bus & train ride...
had good comments and general feedback was that the sermon was well-prepared ; ) the delivery was confident, but I was too fast and preaching to the head not the heart.
Faith that brings transformationWhat is this faith that we’re talking about?
Faith that led the people of Israel right through the Red Sea as though they were on dry ground.
Faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down.
Faith that led you SOT students to come all the way from another country, to pour your money, time, and energy to come and be trained without a reward promised…
Heb 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This verse can be translated to: Faith is the confidence of things hoped for, a sure persuasion or conviction concerning things not seen.
Substance/Evidence
Means that it’s real, definite, and something that we possess RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.
So where does this faith comes from?
1 Thess 5:8But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. Breastplate of faith = faith comes from the heart
Helmet of salvation = hope comes from the head
2 ways of believing: through the mind & heart
To believe in the mind is merely an abstract theory/ideal because the mind rationalizes ….
To believe in the heart brings definite transformation to habit/character/life because having faith in your heart means BELIEVING FIRST BEFORE SEEING.
Repeat after me…
Turn to your neighbours and say…
BELIEVING FIRST BEFORE SEEING!
With that in mind: 3 types of transformation faith brings
#1. Faith that brings transformation takes you out of sin into righteousnessRomans 10:10With the heart one believes unto (literally into) righteousness. “But I’ve sinned? Are you sure God can accept me? How can I be accepted by God?”
How do you become righteous?
It is not just merely accepting biblical facts of truth from the Bible, its believing with your heart, being moved by heartfelt faith OUT of yourselves and INTO Christ, INTO righteousness, INTO eternal life.
Religion gives you hope that it will do you good when you reach the threshold of eternity but true faith gives you a here-and-now experience of everlasting life already within you.
#2. Faith that brings transformation turns weakness into powerI know of a Christian girl who once backslided and entered into an emotionally-abusive relationship with a non-christian. When God convicted her, she boldly took a step of faith to leave the relationship despite facing many threats and difficulties. Crushed and devastated she had faith for the present, living one day at a time, carrying hope for the future that God will deliver her. She lost her friendships and her relationship with her parents, from zero God turned her weakness into power. Now she’s on fire, studying in SOT and ministering to people.
Hallelujah!
Give God a big hand!
#3. Faith that brings transformation turns failure into victory
Now let me share my own testimony:
In the 2nd last semester of poly I failed 2 modules and was supposed to stay back 6 more months instead of the usual 3 years….
I called the moderator to squeeze it all in, and by the grace of God managed to…
Crazy hectic… but I graduated on time…
From not able to go poly… now I have a great job that gives me a pay comparable to a degree holder or if not more…
Recap the points…
Repeat after me…
There are many kinds of faith but ours is the kind of FAITH THAT BRINGS TRANSFORMATION!
